The court of men: dealing with bad deeds In a court of law, defendants are often represented by either a private or court-appointed lawyers, also known as Public Defenders. The duty of the defense lawyer is to provide his ‘client’ with the best possible defense there is. After receiving the case and consulting with his client, he will either challenge the charges and request the acquittal of the defendant or seek the leniency of the court toward him.
