The court of men: dealing with bad deeds
In a court of law, defendants are often represented by either a private or court-appointed lawyers, also known as Public Defenders.
The duty of the defense lawyer is to provide his ‘client’ with the best possible defense there is.
After receiving the case and consulting with his client, he will either challenge the charges and request the acquittal of the defendant or seek the leniency of the court toward him.
During the trial, he will provide evidence, testimonies, and arguments on behalf of the defendant. A jury or a judge will then deliberate on the matter and decide whether the accused is innocent or guilty of the charges held against him.
In the real world, defense attorneys are of two breeds. Those who work with integrity, seek the truth, and abide to the law and those who bend the rules for the sake of winning.
Corrupt defense attorneys make up all kinds of justifications for the bad behavior of their clients, often times leaning on phony evidence, false witnesses, and tricks – all for the gain of money and fame.
They deceive the court, reverse culpability on the victims, and abuse the law to only serve themselves and not justice as it should be.
If the wicked can get away with evil in the court of men, it’s not so when God stands as the judge.
The court of God: dealing with sins
Because all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23), we must all appear one day before God the Judge.
On that day, no excuses will stand as why we did not honor God, repent form our sins, acknowledge the sacrifice of Christ on the cross, and believe the good news of the Kingdom. ‘Insanity’ pleas, won’t work, nor will bribes or influence peddling, and no false witness will dare lie on one’s behalf before the Judge.
Sin will be dealt with the only way there is: punishment… Which is the second death (Revelation 20:11-15).
Christ, our defense attorney
For all those who hearing the Gospel of grace of God, believe the Word, admit their guilt, repent from their sins, and change their ways, there is a lawyer to handle their case: Jesus-Christ, the righteous, as it is written: “For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus, who gave Himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time” 1 Timothy 2:5.
Christ justifies repentant sinners
“If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness” 1 John 1:8-9.
Christ makes intercession for us before the Father.
“Who shall bring a charge against God’s elect? It is God who justifies. Who is he who condemns? It is Christ who died, and furthermore is also risen, who is even at the right hand of God, who also makes intercession for us” Roman 8:33-34.
Christ, our escape from the judgement and the wrath of God
“Most assuredly, I say to you, he who hears My word and believes in Him who sent Me has everlasting life, and shall not come into judgment, but has passed from death into life. Most assuredly, I say to you, the hour is coming, and now is, when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God; and those who hear will live. For as the Father has life in Himself, so He has granted the Son to have life in Himself, and has given Him authority to execute judgment also, because He is the Son of Man. Do not marvel at this; for the hour is coming in which all who are in the graves will hear His voice and come forth—those who have done good, to the resurrection of life, and those who have done evil, to the resurrection of condemnation. I can of Myself do nothing. As I hear, I judge; and My judgment is righteous, because I do not seek My own will but the will of the Father who sent Me” John 5:24:30
